Stewardship is everyone’s business in an organization, and the responsibility for and skills to effectively shepherd the resources of the organization cannot be overemphasized. Holding leaders and employees accountable for stewardship of resources means clearly defining the accountability and having a program in place that measures the use of resources.

Analysis of Human Performance with Business Results

It is easy for leaders to take the road of least resistance when reviewing the performance of their teams, but correlating employee performance with business performance keeps everyone honest.

One of the most effective means of accountability for highlighting the correlation is what I call the “Talent Summit.” After performance reviews have been prepared, leadership meets to discuss the overall messaging in evaluating employee performance, to calibrate for consistency and to resolve any discrepancies in understanding among the leadership team. Having business performance as a comparator makes this process even more effective.
